Data Scientist IV
Are you passionate about using data science to solve real-world problems and communicate insights that leaders can trust? At Ligonier Ministries, we’re looking for a Data Scientist IV to join our Analytics & Information Management (AIM) team within the Technology & Innovation Department (T&I). This is a senior role for an analytics leader who will launch Ligonier’s first machine learning initiatives while occasionally flexing to assist with data engineering and BI as needed to keep value flowing. As part of AIM, you’ll design and deploy trustworthy, interpretable ML models that directly strengthen gospel engagement, discipleship, and generosity. From predictive modeling and A/B testing to SHAP-based explanations and ROI measurement, you’ll help stakeholders not only see what’s possible but also understand and act on it with confidence. And when demand for data science ebbs, your versatility to occasionally assist with data engineering and reporting ensures the ministry continues moving forward.

This position is fully remote, allowing you to contribute from anywhere in the U.S. while partnering with a mission-driven team dedicated to stewardship, innovation, and impact.

What You’ll Do
  • Build predictive models on constituent data to identify the drivers of mission-critical outcomes.
  • Design and interpret controlled experiments (A/B testing, lift, ROI) to measure business impact.
  • Deliver clear, executive-ready explanations of model results using SHAP and other methods.
  • Operationalize ML solutions with reproducible code, CI/CD, monitoring, and Power BI outputs.
  • Collaborate on feature engineering and data pipelines with AIM’s engineering team.
  • Champion data governance, quality, and security practices across sensitive data assets.
  • Mentor colleagues and evaluate emerging Microsoft and ML tools for responsible adoption.
  • Occasionally assist with data engineering and BI delivery during periods of low DS demand.

What You’ll Bring
  • Master’s degree in a quantitative field (Computer/Data Science, Statistics, Applied Economics, etc.).
  • 7–10+ years of progressive experience spanning machine learning, analytics, and data engineering.
  • Expertise in predictive modeling and experimentation (GLMs, ensembles, XGBoost/LightGBM, neural nets, etc.).
  • Strong proficiency in Python (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, XGboost), SQL/T-SQL, and MLOps practices.
  • Hands-on experience within Microsoft’s ecosystem (Azure Synapse/Fabric, SSIS/ADF, Delta lakehouse).
  • Advanced use of Power BI (datasets, dashboards, DAX, incremental refresh).
  • Ability to translate technical models into business-ready explanations and mentor teams.
  • Commitment to Ligonier’s General Statement of Faith.

This is a role with meaningful impact in a non-profit Christian ministry. We highly encourage you to include a cover letter with your application.
At this time, we are only able to hire individuals authorized to work in the United States.

The pay range for this position is $120,000 – $135,000 annually. Pay ranges represent the lowest to highest salary we reasonably believe we would pay for this role at the time of posting. We may ultimately offer more or less than the posted range, and the ranges may be modified in the future. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, geographic location, and organizational needs.
