Remote MLOps Engineer - Audio and Speech Processing

The MLOps Engineer Volunteer will focus on developing and maintaining robust, scalable tools and infrastructure for audio processing, text-to-speech (TTS), and speech-to-text (STT) applications in the field of NLP, particularly for low-resource languages. This role involves collaboration with data scientists and NLP researchers to integrate cutting-edge technologies into practical solutions, aiding SIL and its partners in their mission to enhance communication and information accessibility across diverse language communities.

Major Job Responsibilities
  • Design and implement infrastructure for audio processing and speech-related NLP applications.
  • Develop and maintain pipelines for TTS and STT models, ensuring efficiency and scalability.
  • Collaborate with NLP researchers and data scientists for the integration of new speech processing algorithms.
  • Automate deployment processes and maintain high system availability.
  • Monitor and optimize system performance, ensuring data security and integrity.
  • Provide technical expertise and support for audio and speech-related NLP projects.

Minimum Skill Sets (KSAs):
Knowledge
  • Deep understanding of DevOps/MLOps practices and tools.
  • Familiarity with audio processing, TTS, and STT technologies.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or similar programming languages.

Skills
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP).
  • Ability to design and manage CI/CD pipelines.
  • Competence in Docker, Kubernetes, and similar containerization technologies.
  • Effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical teams.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in MLOps, particularly in NLP or speech processing environments.
  • Prior work with cloud-based infrastructure and audio processing tools is highly desirable.
  • Experience in creating and managing APIs, specifically for machine learning applications, is desirable.
  • Knowledge of other languages in addition to English, and/or exposure to diverse multilingual environments, is preferred.
