Desiring God is hiring a
Remote Senior UI/UX Designer
📍 Remote
Senior UI/UX Designer
YOUR ROLE
You would be the first dedicated UX hire at Desiring God, helping build a premium, cross-platform product experience across web, iOS, Android, and smart TV. Until now, UX responsibilities have mostly sat across graphic/print-oriented roles and ad-hoc implementation decisions — creating friction in requirements clarity, interaction consistency, and delivery quality. You would change that by establishing a durable UX practice that serves Product, Engineering, and Creative together.
Your primary focus would be leading end-to-end UX work for priority initiatives from discovery through post-launch iteration: translating stakeholder intent into user journeys, interaction concepts, and implementation-ready guidance, then partnering with engineering to make sure what ships is both feasible and high-quality. Most of this work would be new for Desiring God — evolving shared patterns for navigation, states, and core flows across platforms rather than inheriting an existing system — so a builder's mindset and comfort with ambiguity matter as much as design craft.
This role supports a bigger vision: helping people move from unknown to known, and from known to deeper partnership, through better content discovery, smoother continuity across devices, and clearer navigation. You would work in a product-shared model — aligning with Product leadership on roadmap intent and outcomes, partnering with Engineering on tradeoffs and sequencing, and working with Creative on brand expression and visual quality — with real room to shape how the role and its operating agreements evolve as the practice matures.

Responsibilities
- Discovery & Requirements (30%)
Lead discovery and requirements definition for high-impact product journeys, framing ambiguous problems into clear options with tradeoffs so that priorities are grounded in user impact and organizational leverage. - Design Execution (30%)
Create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and implementation-ready guidance, evolving shared UX patterns for navigation, states, and core flows so that experiences stay coherent across web and mobile. - Cross-Functional Collaboration & QA (25%)
Partner with engineering on feasibility and quality, drive iterative design cycles using feedback, analytics, and qualitative input, and support design QA and post-launch refinements so that shipped work holds up in the real world. - Documentation & Capability Building (15%)
Build practical UX documentation and reusable templates over time, and raise UX capability across the org through collaboration, coaching, and clear communication.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You Bring
- Strong UX/product design experience in shipped digital products, typically 5+ years.
- Demonstrated ability to lead UX work from discovery through release.
- Strong systems thinking across multi-screen or multi-platform experiences.
- Strong stakeholder facilitation and requirements synthesis skills.
- Demonstrated success collaborating deeply with engineering teams.
- Proficiency with modern UX tooling for wireframing, prototyping, and specification.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Experience designing content-heavy or media-rich products is a plus.
- Experience with mobile and TV interaction paradigms is a plus.
- Familiarity with design systems and component-driven delivery is a plus.
You Are
- A senior UX practitioner who can lead work from discovery through release and hold multi-platform experiences in your head at once, designing patterns that scale across web, mobile, and TV rather than solving one screen at a time.
- A clear thinker under ambiguity: you frame vague problems into concrete options with tradeoffs, and you connect your design decisions to measurable product and ministry outcomes rather than treating polish as the goal in itself.
- A strong facilitator and collaborator: you build trust with engineers, lead stakeholders through discovery without needing a fixed process handed to you, and navigate disagreement without losing collaborative footing.
- Someone who balances speed and quality, right-sizing your artifacts to the stage of work rather than over- or under-building for the moment.
- A Christian genuinely moved by the mission: you see UX not just as craft but as a way to help people encounter Desiring God's content and take real next steps toward it.
The Team
You would sit inside Product, shared across Creative and Engineering — a first-of-its-kind role at Desiring God, which means real ownership over how UX gets done here and meaningful room to shape the role as it matures. You'd align with Product leadership on roadmap intent and success criteria, partner with Engineering on feasibility and sequencing, work with Creative on brand expression and storytelling quality, and pull audience context from content and ministry stakeholders. Decision boundaries and the operating model itself are expected to be clarified and adjusted together as the first year unfolds.
Culture
- You like to do creative explorations and iterate on ideas.
- Humble authenticity in heart posture, working with excellence but with others on the team in humility.
- Excited to share ideas, collaborate across teams and disciplines, and bring concepts to life across platforms.
- The ability to orient around plans and deadlines to complete work on schedule.
- Able to receive feedback and critique from a team and prioritize what to incorporate.
- Treasuring and embodying the truths of a Christian Hedonist.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROLE
- Ability to adhere to our affirmation of faith.
- Able to legally work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Desiring God is a hybrid workplace, and this role is open to remote talent.
