Remote Manager of AI

Uses technical and leadership skills to manage the data science team to help release children from poverty in Jesus' name. Provides vision, strategy, and tactical oversight to the Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence (AI CoE) to deliver high-impact AI enablement through delivery of AI solutions, platforms, and standards.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide full, daily management for assigned professional staff. This responsibility includes hiring, discipline, and termination, as well as, coaching, performance management, assigning, checking, and approving work to satisfy department objectives.

This leader helps to shape the strategic vision for citizen Data Science enablement within the organization, ensuring that Compassion teams are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to harness AI easily and safely. This leader will partner with peers to create and execute a compelling AI enablement roadmap inclusive of all levels of AI maturity and foster a culture of ethical AI and continuous learning with a high bias towards ministry impact and return on investment. The incumbent will ensure accomplishment of department responsibilities based on oversight from senior management, following established practices, organizational strategy, department guidelines, and within approved budget.

What will you do?
  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully upholds Compassion’s ministry in prayer.
  • Acts as an advocate to raise the awareness of the needs of children. Understands Christ’s mandate to protect children. Commits to and prioritizes child protection considerations in all decision-making, tasks and activities across the ministry. Abides by all behavioral expectations in Compassion’s Statement of Commitment to Child Protection and Code of Conduct. Reports any concerns of abuse, neglect or exploitation of children through Compassion’s internal reporting process and appropriately supports responses to incidents if they occur.
  • Provides technical leadership and development to direct reports.  Works with staff to foster an environment of professional growth, in alignment with compassion’s strategies and objectives.  Consult with peer management and senior leaders to successfully align departmental resources and priorities across Compassion.
  • Contributes to or prepares and administers the annual budget and departmental expenses, ensuring accountability for on-time completion of deliverables based on department objectives, SLAs, and other Compassion standards, ensuring compliance with regulatory and board policies.
  • Selects, manages and develops assigned staff, establishing goals and objectives, coaching and managing performance, including discipline, motivation, and annual reviews; supports continuous learning and development that enhances individual performance and organizational capability. Eliminate roadblocks to delivery, expand the team's relationships with external neighbours, and keep abreast of trending AI techniques.
  • Partners with peers and senior leaders and directs assigned staff to create and execute a compelling enablement roadmap to mature and foster a culture of ethical AI and continuous learning with a high bias towards ministry impacts and return on investment.
  • Leads subordinate professionals and the AI CoE to deliver high-impact AI enablement and AI solutions and platforms--including exploratory data analysis, visualization, analytics, data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning and robotic process automation. Establishes and manages partnerships with vendors to manage maintenance of data modeling tools.
  • Oversees collaborative decision-making process to consider ethical and data-privacy risk factors involved in proposed projects to determine appropriate mitigations and constraints on usages or development.
  • Contributes to the strategic vision for citizen Data Science enablement at Compassion, ensuring that our teams are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to harness artificial intelligence easily and safely. Provides vision, strategy, and tactical oversight to the Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence (AI CoE).

What do you bring?
  • AWS Certifications in AI/ML, data science, or data-engineering related fields a plus
  • Experience working with data eventing/streaming (Pulsar/Kafka) a plus
  • Hands-on Experience with AWS SageMaker a plus
  • Hands-on Experience with DataRobot or similar low-code AI platform a plus
  • Hands-on Experience with Snowflake Data Warehouse a plus
  • Hands-on Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud a plus
  • Experience with "data fabric" architectural patterns a plus
